The Ni Group, inspired by the work of Alexandros Papadiamantis, presents a performance based on his short story “Enjoyment in the Neighborhood.”
Athens, 1900…
A death strikes our neighborhood like lightning. The suicide of a young man brings the neighbors together in a strange, immense, almost involuntary sense of relief and enjoyment. Yet this tragic event also confronts them—perhaps more than ever—with the question that truly burns within them: if death is the end, do they have the strength, while they are still alive, to step outside their safe and solitary selves and open up to the Other, to carry the burden of existence together?
